"A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken
spirit drieth the bones."
Proverbs 17:22 (KJV)
Upon leaving the hospital where my
mother had been admitted, I was feeling over-whelmed not wanting to leave her
side. I got into my small hatchback car. As I started to back up, I
was reminded of the smiley face drawing my nephew left in the dusty back window
of my car. I chuckled a little thinking isn’t it funny how children will remind
you how dirty your car is. For some reason, I got the feeling "no
that's not it". I zoned in with another quick glance at the smiley face
smiling back at me. Then the thought came, "don't forget to
smile!" At that moment I completely lost it, bursting out into
laughter; almost as if it was my nephew's voice I heard. Soon, I felt the
heaviness lift. The joy of the Lord came from within me and filled my car
as I drove the rest of the way home in peace.
Life is stressful. The pressure of it can
weigh so heavily on us to the point of a breakdown. It’s very necessary
to cry in moments of heartache. But sometimes even in the midst of our
most stressful moments, can we laugh? “Yes, we can”. God has a great
sense of humor finding some of the simplest innocent ways to bring us
joy. He knows our situation better than we do and he doesn’t want us to
stress and worry ourselves sick. Proverbs 17:22 reads "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken
spirit drieth the bones."
As we know to be true, laughter is healthy having a tremendous amount of health
benefits. Laughter can reduce stress levels, lower blood pressure,
fortifies the immune system, you look better, it kills pain, even increases
creativity and the list goes on. So, next time you come across a child's
dusty or frosty smiley face in a car window, don't forget to smile.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
